PSE supports Prepare in a Year, a simple, easy-to-read document that the Washington State Emergency Management Division has written to help all of us do a better job getting prepared for "the big one." It gives us one recommended task a month that should take about an hour to do. By doing just one task a month within a year—taking just one bite at a time—we should be ready to take care of ourselves and other family members in our home.

We have encountered five large storms already this winter season that has affected businesses, were you prepared? Are you ready for more storms and other incidents that may require us to use emergency supplies and training to better withstand what the weather brings us? For the month of February here's a recommended task:

What do we need to do to make sure all our family members and business employees have the same emergency contacts should we need to let others know we are ok and where we should meet?

Newcastle Celebrated Earth Day on April 24th - Mother Nature visited too, bringing wind, rain and eventually a little sun. Over 40 booths braved the elements to attend Earth Day at Lake Boren Park and an open house BBQ at the future "Trails at Newcastle" home sites. Thanks to the many businesses and organizations who supported the event, and the volunteers including City Councilmember Rich Crispo who directed parking with Chamber Chair Nick Sooy, Council members Carol Simpson and Lisa Jensen, Mayor Dulcich and Deputy Mayor Buri also attended. Brenda Nunes from "The Trails at Newcastle" and Grace Stiller from Newcastle Weed Warriors"  co-chaired the Earth Day planning, and it would not have happened without them. The Chamber of Commerce helped facilitate but it was volunteers and participating businesses that made the event possible.
Chiropractic Wellness supports every event in Newcastle, and their booth is always well staffed!   The City of Newcastle Supported the event and Jed Gonzales gave a great talk on the importance of keeping our streams and rivers clean. Here Jed is thanked for his efforts by "Bert the Salmon"!   There were some intense gust of wind and more than one canopy decided to be a kite. Here people run to help bring this one back to Earth.    Kate and Kazue from the Municipal League stayed, with spirit, even after their house had been blown down
Angela Wingate from Puget Sound Energy made sure we had the equipment necessary. Carmela Ramaglia and John Jensen mc'd the event. Here Carmela keeps people warm with he personality!         KCLS was there with information on the new library. They were hearty souls and stayed after the windstorm too!
